DEMONSTRATION MODEL TWO PIN MED, ARCH RIB& INTERNAL REACTION RINGS
The model of the arch and close ring very useful to demonstrate the Muller Brussels principle and thus to obtain the influence line experimentally. In case of arch the influences lines of horizontal thrust can easily by moving one end horizontally through 2 cm and measuring the vertical deflection of the arch rib. The vertical deflection gives the influence line ordinate of horizontal thrust in the arch. In case of closed ring , if an angular rotation ‘q’ is given by moving the 2 arms then if the vertical, movement of the point diametrically opposite is ‘a’ then a/q represent the movement at the hinged point due to a unit load applied at the opposite point. The results can be verified theoretically. This will be very useful training for the student in structural mechanics
